Small but mighty is a charity fanzine celebrating the life of all might aka Toshinori yagi from Kōhei Horikoshi's My hero academia

general contributor guidelines

  • All accepted contributors are expected to produce a new and unique work (art or writing) for this zine. This work cannot have been published or shared elsewhere and cannot be publicly shared until after the project is complete.

  • If there is evidence that a submitted work is created with AI or otherwise plagiarized, the contributor will be expelled from the project.

  • Contributors are expected to meet their check-in and submission deadlines or else quickly communicate to mods if they need an extension or other leniency. A contributor missing multiple check-ins with no communication may force the mods to remove them from the project.

  • Contributors are expected to join the contributor discord and regularly check for updates and other information shared there. They are also expected to follow the server rules including remaining respectful to their team members and not engaging in hateful or offensive speech. Breaking these rules may result in expulsion from the project. We want to keep the server a happy and creative space for all!

artist guidelines

  • Page artists are expected to produce either a one-page illustration, a two-page spread, or a 2-4 page comic. All must be completed, in full color, and have a background or backgrounds by the submission deadline.

  • We may include spot illustrations to accompany feature fics. In which case, spot artists are expected to produce 2-3 small "spot" illustrations by working together with a writer. These are not required to have a background but should blend well with the page around them. Artist-writer teams will be made by the mods and are expected to remain in regular contact.

  • Merch artists are expected to design 2+ original merchandise designs. This may include digital merch. Product types will be assigned by the mods.

  • Again, work cannot contain elements generated with AI and/or be traced from others' art. These constitute plagiarism and will result in expulsion from the project.

writer guidelines

  • Feature fic writers are expected to produce an original written work of 2k-3k words. They will also potentially collaborate with a spot artist to illustrate it.

  • All written works are expected to be polished and contain no grammar or spelling mistakes. Contributors will receive help proof-reading and editing from the writing mod.

  • All written works must be original and, again, any evidence of the usage of AI or plagiarism will result in expulsion.

page art application guidelines

  • Potential page artists are required to submit 3 samples that best display their artistic ability and the quality and style they plan to use for this project. we also ask for a portfolio of 3-10 additional works.

  • A sample containing all might is not required, but is highly recommended.

  • At least one featured piece must contain a full background.

  • Google Drive links are preferred (though not required) for the three feature pieces and portfolio. Please double-check that these are set to public sharing.

  • please do not provide a social media page as your portfolio--it should contain only your chosen works.

  • As for all zines, we recommend that your featured art and portfolio contain "zine-style" works that are colored, polished, and have a full background.

merch art application guidelines

  • Similar to page artists, potential merch artists are required to submit 3 samples of merch designs that best display their artistic ability and the quality and style they plan to use for designing the merch for this project as well as a portfolio of 3-10 additional merch designs.

  • your examples and portfolio can contain photographs of merch you have produced, design files, mock-ups, or just the art. make sure the art is visible and that it is clear what merch item a sample is meant to be.

  • you may include designs for any merch types in your samples. if you are interested in creating a print, you should include at least one print example with a full illustration.

  • A sample containing all might is not required, but is highly recommended.

  • Google Drive links are preferred (though not required) for the three feature pieces and portfolio. Please double-check that these are set to public sharing.

writer application guidelines

  • Potential writers are required to submit 3 writing samples of 1-3k words that best represent their work as well as a portfolio of 1-3 additional works.

  • At least one feature or portfolio piece must be a complete work within the word limit.

  • A sample containing all might is not required, but is highly recommended if possible.

  • Features can be full-length fics (max 3k words), excerpts from larger fics, or samples of other creative writing. we most recommend completed fics.

  • Google Drive links are preferred (though not required) for the three feature pieces and portfolio. Please double-check that these are set to public sharing. If sharing links to works on AO3, please make sure they are viewable by the public.

  • Works will be judged on grammar, style, flow, and characterization.

What is a zine?

Zines (pronounced like the third syllable in "magazine") are a tradition of collecting artwork, prose, and/or other mediums together into a combined booklet centered around a theme. Fanzines, zines centered around existing media, are a tradition dating all the way back to the late 1960s with fans of Star Trek. They often include a combination of fanart and fanfiction, but can also include other forms of fan content such as cosplay photos, in-universe written works, poetry, and more!

What kind of content will be in small but mighty?

small but mighty will be a physical zine with physical merch. It will be sfw and gen (no romantic content) and contain art, comics, and writing featuring toshinori yagi and those close to him throughout his life. the zine may contain spoilers (inlcuding post-canon/post-time skip content), though we will endeavor to keep the main server spoiler-free. a small number of au (alternate universe) pitches will be accepted. We will also have a digital-only side zine with romantic shipping. This zine will be filled with works from our main zine contributors on a volunteer basis. Pitches featuring ships that are pedophilic or incestuous will not be allowed.

how can i join?

we are currently looking artists, writers, and merch artists to complete our mighty team. If you are interested in filling any of those positions, contributor applications are now open! You can find the links to apply on the home page or on our social media.

who can apply?

contributor applicants must be over the age of eighteen at the time of application. previous zine experience is not necessary and we encourage those new to zines to apply! you will need to prepare three samples of your best work and a portfolio of additional works to apply.content made by applicants outside of their application will have no bearing on acceptance. however, if a contributor is found to have engaged in serious harassment, bigoted behavior, or other similar actions which violate zine policy they may be removed from the project. if it is found that an applicant or contributor has submitted plagiarized writing, art traced from another artist, or any work which utilizes ai, they will be removed from the project and/or their application disqualified.for help preparing your application, see the "contributor info" page.

how will contributors be compensated?

We guarantee contributors a free digital copy of the zine. if sales allow, we will attempt to cover up to a full free bundle including shipping. if we are unable to meet that goal, we will subsidize what we can and provide contributors the opportunity to purchase zines and merch at production price. contributors will not receive monetary compensation as All extra profit will be donated to charity.

where will the money go?

this zine will be for charity. All profit not used to pay for production or compensating contributors with bundles will be donated to a reputable charity chosen by the contributors.
